Since we went so street with the last three Def Jam Rapstar videos, we had to switch things up this time around with a live instrument. If you're not already familiar with Knewdles and S.O.S. of Misnomer(s), get to know them a little better with our latest promo video "Strings Attached."
The Brooklyn-based sister duo came with the heat in the clip and we got up with Knewdles to talk about her thoughts on Def Jam Rapstar and more.
What made you two decide to go with rhymes over a violin?
I think It's actually less about the instruments we play than the bond we share over music, and together as sisters. Music runs deep in our blood, and ours has happened to take the shape of hip-hop.
What did you think when you first heard of the Def Jam Rapstar video game?
That it's gonna be HUGE In Asia, lol, land of karaoke. I mean, it's a great Idea; in this day and age it's not who raps but who doesn't rap? I haven't played video games in years and I hate losing but this one I think I got a pretty good shot at bodying.
If you were to battle SOS in the game, which song (ever made) would you challenge her with?
I'd have to pick "Everyday Struggle" by Biggie. I've heard her rapping along with the song and I'm pretty sure she knows more of the lyrics than I do. It'd be like giving her a head start. I'd want her to at least have a shot at winning. LOL.
Which song is your favorite song (besides your own) to rhyme along with when you hear it?
Favorite? That's too hard. I think the first song I ever learned the lyrics to was "Big Poppa", so that always unlocks wonderful feelings. Although, "Anotha" off Life After Death is great in a different way cuz u get to do both male and female voices (B.I.G. and Lil' Kim). Also, I'm thinking of the second verse of Group Home's "Supa Star", It never fails to get me going. Same thing with Mos' verse on "B-Boy Document".
What is Misnomer(S) working on now that people should be on the look out for?
Mainly, we're working to release our debut album, "American Eyes". We're like the girls who cried "album release" but it's actually happening this year, in the first half of 2010. Also, several songs from the album make up the soundtrack to Nelson George's latest film series project, "Left Unsaid" which will be released this summer. We make a few appearances in it as well.
There's a very likely possibility that we will be travelIng to South Africa this summer to perform at the World Cup, so please send us good juju for that to happen!
